Along with their big brother.
Though he was quite congenial,
They fussed with one another.
The sisters were not similar
In nature or in looks,
Yet each believed herself to be
The very best of cooks.
So when their brother asked for stew,
They started to plan dinner.
Each thought her recipe of choice
Was sure to be the winner.
They argued at the grocery,
For all the things they’d buy.
The cut of beef that one would choose,
The other would decry.
Potatoes, carrots, celery—
On these, they did agree,
But when one added onion,
Her sis said, “Not for me.”
The flavorings caused conflict, too:
Some garlic, sea salt, wine, or thyme,
Tomato paste, paprika, broth,
Or just a dash of lime.
All while the sisters battled on,
Their brother made a dish—
The finest stew that one could want
Of tasty, seasoned fish.
