Land of windmill, clog and flower,
Tree-edged canal where boats drift by,
Enjoyment of the gentle hour
Where feasted beauty fills the eye.
Springtime blossom, colour bright,
Baroque architectural style,
Pause at many a varied sight
Often with an astonished smile -
(For surely we’d not seen before
A brimming bike park, multi-floor!)
Floral swathes of red and white,
Interspersed with pink and blue,
Purple, lilac, pale and bright,
A planted rainbow! Every hue
Is dazzling! What awe-inspiring stuff,
The gardens that are Keukenhof!
Daffs, hyacinth, narcissus bloom
So sweet their scented perfume bring
But all hold back to give full room
For the outstanding regal king -
Upright, stately, tall, so grand
In colours more than you can guess
Each adding to the massive band
Its tulips at their very best.
Paltry descriptions poor and rough
Can’t describe glorious Keukenhof!
Windmill, clog, canal and flower.
The Netherlands have special power
To Thrill, delight, gladden, and then
Compel you to come back again.
