To warn the Israelites of sin, their watchman on the wall,
Compelled to tell the righteous of the stumbling blocks they face,
And warn the wicked of their doom, should they not change their ways.
God told him he would have to give account for those he failed
To even try dissuading from destruction, eyes left veiled,
But promised guiltlessness as long as faithfully he spoke
Of God's impending judgment of their sin by sword and smoke.
So, likewise, each believer is a soldier of the cross,
Commissioned to proclaim the gracious gospel to the lost,
As well as warn those who reject Christ's sacrifice
That they themselves for sin will pay the high eternal price.
God armors us with truth, and Jesus' righteousness bestows;
Salvation guards our minds; with ready feet the gospel goes.
With faith, the vicious, fiery darts of Satan we withstand,
And never void is His Word, the sword within our hand.
Equipped by You, this soldier, whom by Jesus grace You saved,
Must heed your call and mount the wall to warn a world depraved.
May I your faithful soldier be, stand valiantly and tall,
And wield the sword of truth and love, your watchman on the wall.
