On 5 August 2010 the San Jose mine in Northern Chile collapsed, leaving 33 miners trapped 2,300 feet below ground level, behind a wall of debris almost half a mile thick. An enormous rescue effort was launched. Sixty-nine days later all thirty-three miners were safely and miraculously brought back to the earth’s surface. God had His man in that mine. Though, trapped and incarcerated, Jose Henriquez led the men in regular prayer twice each day and faithfully shared God’s Truth. Many of the miners came to experience full salvation during those sixty-nine days, finding that the Mighty Fortress does not stop at ground level but reaches to the depths of the earth ….



Hidden - each vestige of blue sky,
Each rolling fleecy cloud,
Hidden - the rising, setting sun,
The seven-hued arc high bowed.
Hidden - the mountain soaring peak,
The dipping valley low,
Green shoot, furled bud,
Rich blossom flower
Of season’s changing flow.
Hidden - the fresh green bush and tree,
Hidden - the roaring ocean sea
Hidden - loved friends and family,
All hidden, all hidden to me.


The Maker of the stretching sky
The billowing rolling cloud,
The rising and the setting sin
The rainbow archly bowed;
The Maker of the highest mount,
The deepest valley floor,
Each plant and flower,
Each bush and tree,
Each changing season’s store.
The Maker who gives life and breath
Appoints my days
From life to death.
And in His hands
He hold the depth
Of deepest deepest earth.

I’ll trust in Him,
My Rock, my Tower,
I’ll trust Him
From this very hour,
My Fortess strong,
For by His Power
I now, to Him, belong.
