I’ve nothing quite so rare
As all Your gifts in nature’s world,
Each one beyond compare.
The song I have is not so sweet
As birds while twittering.
Perhaps, they laugh among themselves
To hear me when I sing.
My patience is of short supply
Beside that of a spider,
Who takes a thread to weave a web
And ever makes it wider.
Next to the strength a tiger has,
My own is very small.
Contrasted with a cheetah’s speed,
I’ve nothing but a crawl.
The claims I have to loveliness
Are far between and few,
Unlike the beauty of a rose
That glistens in the dew.
As to the wisdom of some men,
Philosophers and such,
I don’t possess great insight,
And vision, not so much.
The attribute I most desire
Is very hard to find.
It’s love like Your Son Jesus showed
To you and all mankind.
He loved the ones who followed him,
As well as those who strayed.
He even loved his closest friends,
Despite how they betrayed.
He lived a life of kindest deeds;
He acted as a servant.
He taught the way to follow God
In words most wise and fervent.
Lord, if you fill my heart with love,
Both bountiful and true,
I’ll gladly be obedient
And give it back to you,
