Knotted my wild rag just right.
Shiny buckle, creased pants. Prettified for the dance
At the hall on a Saturday night.
The folks hereabouts, ain't seen nothing, I doubt,
Like the steps I'm goin' to perform.
If I say so myself, no one excels
Like me, when I dance up a storm.
I choose me a gal. (Says her name's Belle.)
She's in for a treat, wait and see.
I give her a twirl, a dip, and a whirl.
A wondrous sight, you'll agree.
A right snappy tune; she tuckers out soon.
She's gaspin' and fixin' to faint.
She's not gonna last; I set her down fast.
(An unmannered partner, I ain't.)
I light up the hall; the folks are enthralled
With my lightnin' fast hoppin' and kicks.
No one compares with my footwork and flair.
These fillies are playin' out quick.
The fiddler is keen, the best I e'er seen.
He zips through a polka and waltz.
Girl after girl, their skirts all a-swirl.
My talent is perfect, no faults.
I sure can't complain; I'm sure glad I came
To burn and a-blister the floor.
Whatever I choose, I'm flashin' my moves,
Leavin' 'em wishin' for more.
Missies and old maids, all weaken and fade,
None able to keep up the pace.
All run out of steam, the end of their dreams
To dance with one so full of grace.
It's time now, I wager, to be centre-stager;
I two-step and polka and jive.
My heels a-clickin', the floor takin' a lickin'.
Another moment of fame has arrived.
Quicker and faster, oh, Lord, I'm a master
Of each twist and fine pirouette.
Cha cha and tango, jig and fandango,
And I ain't even worked up a sweat.
Then quick as a wink, I fall out of sync.
A medley of turns, one step shy.
Feet all a-tangle, legs I can't wrangle.
And teapot o'er backside I fly.
The folks look away to hide their dismay,
At my uncommon lapse and faux pas.
For I'm no less a wonder for such a small blunder.
I remain ... the Beau of the Ball.
