Delighting in its perfect weight and form
I trace a crimson thread that swirls within
And let it make my eager heart grow warm.
A whiff of ancient parchment summons me
To fill the waiting leaf with hopes and fears;
I poise my hand in answer to its plea
Prepared with joy and laughter, yet some tears.
But what are pen and paper without ink –
The element that brings my thoughts to light?
Denied this fluid but now vital link,
I would abandon all my hopes to write.
Yet when I pause to think upon this truth,
I see myself within the Master’s hand.
As fashioned pen, I see myself a youth
Poised over days prepared at His command.
Like untouched parchment, time rolls out ahead
Prepared to capture all I say and do.
When breath and moments finally are wed
What catalyst will bring my life in view?
The answer quivers on my pen’s fine tip;
To circumvent its possible escape
I swiftly reach for ink in which to dip
And on the parchment several words take shape.
“Surrender to my Lord alone will yield
A life whose message shines forth unconcealed.”
