Another case in point would be the wandering Israelites. How quickly they forgot their miraculous exodus with the parting of the Red Sea. God was with them day and night leading and guiding them with the pillars of cloud and fire as they journeyed towards their destination. God provided for their daily needs, but they were an ungrateful bunch. Instead of focusing on God’s promises, they looked backwards and complained about what they missed because their menu was lacking what they were used to. They were bored with manna. Then when Moses went up the mountain for a Godly chat which lasted forty days, they grew sinfully restless. These stubborn people urged Aaron, who was in charge, to make them a new god--they feared Moses wasn’t coming back due to his lengthy departure. When Aaron consented to their faithless whim and melted their jewelry into a golden calf, God’s anger was aroused. He sent Moses packing down the mountain with the stone tablets engraved with His ten commandments. Reaching the camp, when Moses saw the chaos and pagan idol, he lost it. In anger and disbelief, he smashed God’s authored instructions.
Today are we much different from these Old Testament characters? How often do we bypass God’s plan because we grow inpatient and want what we desire right now. We’re not convinced that God’s timing is perfect--and we jeopardize the blessings that God is waiting to give us. Our weak-kneed faith tells us that God isn’t listening, doesn’t understand what’s going on in our lives, or has forgotten us altogether. The next time life gets you down--look up--and believe that your heavenly Father wants the best for you. Trust Him to be in charge of your life. He promises that you won’t be disappointed.
