Every day another night,
Battles fought of wit and scorn,
Medals of dishonour worn,
Full of thrust and lunge and block,
Needing strength to bear the shock,
Dodge the blow and wear the blunt,
Every turn a demon hunt,
Void of purpose, goal or poise,
Screaming, crying, battle noise,
God not known, a God not heard,
Voiceless, distant with no Word,
Plans all failed, no peace, no dream,
Chances lost -- just yell and scream,
Darkness grows, no candlelight,
Shining forth in endless night.
That was life, my given lot,
Ever since I left my cot,
Baby's bottle gladly clasped,
But a time that quickly passed,
Growing up but not mature,
Shame the cloth I always wore,
One long constant battleground,
Look for love but never found,
Something missing, something lost,
No one told me of the cost,
Sin was never understood,
It just filled my neighbourhood,
In the dark I had not heard,
Of the love that He conferred,
Battle on just push and shove,
Life contained no endless love.
Then it came and changed the game,
When I heard Him call my name,
I was washed in gentle rain,
Took away life's greater pain,
Everything just changed that day,
Endless things just went away,
Something entered, there I stood,
Loved and held and understood,
Endless pain has met the balm,
Endless panic becomes calm,
Endless fear has gone away,
Endless filth met soap today,
Endless doubt now meets an end,
Endless sores are on the mend,
Endless night now endless day,
Endless life has come my way.
