A good meal to prepare.
He said, “With how my mother cooks,
This could not near compare.”
--It was like a red rag to a bull.
While she put on her make-up,
He had to sit and wait.
With the time she spent getting ready,
Too often they were late.
--It was like a red rag to a bull.
He left her with the household chores
To watch a football game
While in his easy chair he sat,
Not feeling any shame.
--It was like a red rag to a bull.
Her mother came to visit them
And stayed for far too long.
She took delight in telling him
What he was doing wrong.
--It was like a red rag to a bull.
She washed his best white sweater
With a blouse of red and pink.
Not only was it color-streaked,
Hot water made it shrink.
--It was like a red rag to a bull.
His final goof that first year was
As bad as it could be.
He was so busy he forgot
Their anniversary.
--It was like a red rag to a bull.
Their love endured through many years
In spite of limitations.
Forgiveness was a healing balm
For soothing provocations.
