Out of thee shall come the raging holy war, the clash of the kingdoms.
Bethlehem, Bethlehem, though thou be little…
To thee came the wandering family, seeking refuge among your busy streets.
Your doors were closed, in all your thronging city, no room was found,
except in a humble stable, the birthplace of the Savior.
The holy raging war, the clash of the kingdoms.
Bethlehem, Bethlehem, though thou be little…
To thee came wise men—seeking, searching, drawn on by a Star,
Bowing down in adoration, presenting gifts of love, worshipping from the heart.
Yet there came also the deceiver, feigning worship, the heart of a wolf beneath the skin of a lamb,
Crazed by jealousy, breathing out hate, slaughtering innocent children, leaving grieving mothers in the wake of his sword.
The holy raging war, the clash of the kingdoms.
Bethlehem, Bethlehem, though thou be little…
From the shameless Jewish slaughter in your streets escaped the Holy family,
Tears of gratitude flowing down Mary’s cheeks, she hugged the Boy, warm and alive to her breast.
Yet within your streets and beyond mourning mothers keened and wailed,
Sobbing , they clutched their boys, cold and dead to their painfully full breasts.
The holy raging war, the clash of the kingdoms.
