Those Children of Israel.
So God sent them quail,
And it made them sick to death.
“I won’t go,” grumbled Jonah
Before he was swallowed by a whale,
And even when God saved him,
He continued to lament.
“Just let me die,” moaned Elijah
When Jezebel made threats.
He received food from an angel,
And he prophesied again.
“Wake up, Lord; we’re going to die,”
Cried disciples in the boat.
Then Jesus calmed the storm and asked,
“Where is your faith?”
Leafing through the Bible,
I am comforted to find
I’m not alone when I protest
The things I dread or fear.
If prophets could be discouraged
Or disciples be afraid,
Their actions serve as reminder
We share a fallen nature.
Help me, Lord, to be content
With all of Your provision.
May I choose to go where You send me
And be happy in Your plan.
When I’m afraid of what’s ahead,
Let me know You’ll be my guide,
And when I’m threatened by life’s storms,
Remind me You are near.
Don’t let me murmur, fret, or fuss,
But give me a thankful heart.
Increase my faith, Lord, every day,
And forgive me when I fail.
