What is the message each one sends,
Weightless words, fantasy lives,
Modern addictions--super-sized.
Click, click and then click once more
to open yet another cyber door
Searching for mates, people are lonely
Date sites promise them their “one and only”
Has virtue left the human race
Is everyone blind to what’s poor taste,
Slippery slopes are dangerous ground
for aching hearts that are marriage bound
Are genuine encounters out of style
where we actually talk, cry or smile
with people whom we love and trust--
Character counts, it always must
It disturbs me to see young minds
play games alone--the cyber kind
Where are the games of yesteryears
that gathered families--gone I fear
No clicking mouse, no video cards
What youth had then, don’t disregard--
Interaction with siblings, pals, and peers
in fun, competitive atmospheres
No formal scoreboards and referees
Just backyard games and grass-stained knees
No uniforms or lengthy rules
Just neighborhood teams in friendly duels
“Enough already,” teen Pete interjects
“Gramps, It’s not all bad--ya gotta expect
that time will change old ways to new
for each generation till time is through”
“Encyclopedias are books of the past
Google has answers to most things we ask
Facts for reports, it just takes a click
There’s even remedies for what makes us sick”
“Technology’s great, but it does get abused
Some don’t like it--it gets them confused,
I understand why you might be wary
But truly Gramps, it’s not all that scary”
Now you’ve heard some pros and cons
Be alert, be informed, all dads and moms,
Some parents set limits to time spent online
By observing their children, all should be fine
