For fade away treasures that no one can keep,
Are you bone weary tired in a world such as this--
Saddened by family times you’ve already missed?
Stop what you’re doing--recognize the grave error
That yoke ‘round your neck is laden with terror,
Fearful of failures, or worse, losing your jobs
Secular expectations--do they outrank God’s?
Possessions and money bind some with heavy chains
The world is buying souls, but who receives the gains,
Tempers flare and minds may snap--the pressure gets too great
Push, push, then push some more--so CEO’s can celebrate?
Child, there’s another way, open up your heart to Me
I want to give you rest on earth, and for all eternity
Peace will come, I promise--slow down, receive My calm
Weariness will dissipate, My love can be your balm.
These words are a lifeline to those exhausted by the pace
Who put in lengthy hours to gain momentum in their race,
Though goals may be attained, still no time to relax--
“That’s good but now do better,” words that keep each slave on task.
With priorities in balance--God, family, then yourself
Life falls into place, so put your worries on a shelf,
Decisions with His guidance make for joyous attitudes
Rest just cannot happen till the spirit is renewed.
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV)
