(Proverbs chapter 4 in verse...
My son, my daughter, gather close and hear
What I would teach to those I hold most dear.
Do not forsake the words you’ll hear today,
Cling tightly, don’t forget , don’t swerve away,
But seek for wisdom, let her reign within
To keep your feet from straying into sin.
Turn from temptation, listen to the call
Of wisdom, even if it cost your all.
Esteem her highly, run to her embrace
And you will wear a garland crown of grace
Upon your head, a splendour shining bright
Reflecting gleaming, shining, radiant light.
Listen my child, accept the words I say
And trust that I will always guard your way
On roads of wisdom, straight and long the path
That leads to life, eternity and truth.
Guard well, avoid the route of evil men
That call and tempt you, do not listen when
They offer shares in bread of wickedness
And sumptuous wine of violent excess.
Turn, turn away, my child, fix your gaze
Directly forward on my righteous ways.
Walk with the ones who shine like gleaming dawn,
The early freshness of a pristine morn,
That promises all that there’s yet to be -
The light of day, new opportunity.
My child, pay close attention to my word,
And let your young and tender heart be stirred
By this, the saving truth you hear today,
Cling tightly, don’t forget , don’t swerve away.
Above all else, guard tight your precious heart
With wall of my salvation its rampart.
The wellspring of your life, my treasure store,
Guard, guard it well, till you reach Heaven’s shore.
