Things happen every day,
All around the world,
Which change the course of history.
But you have lived a snug life
Safe inside your high school;
As you’ve been cocooned in your social life
They have never touched you.
In English class you examined them
With a magnifying glass,
Collecting every detail
That you might be an expert
On every tiny detail
And report on what you find.
In social studies you dissected them
With a scalpel,
Analyzing all the inner parts
Of what caused the world
To get where it is today.
But today the metamorphose has begun,
As you embark on a new phase of your life.
No longer are these events
Tools for your education;
It is time for you to claim them as your own,
And to decide what you will do.
This is your inheritance—
It is up to you
To change
The world.
