Mama? What’s that?
It’s my magic lie detector. Have you cleaned your room yet?

Mama? Can my friend come over and play?
Not right now. Didn’t you have a friend over yesterday?

Mama? Can I have some ice cream?
Hmmm…Have you finished your dinner yet?

Mama? Where do babies come from?
Oh dear. Where’s your father?

Mama? Is there really a Santa Claus?
That’s a tough one. What do you think?

Mama- why do we have to go to church?
We choose to attend church because Jesus chose to forgive us.
Got a problem with that?


Mama…when can I shave my legs?
When I think you’re ready. Did you finish your homework?

Mama, why are the other girls so mean?
Most likely because they don’t like themselves. Middle school is hard, isn’t it?

Mama- how old were you when you had your first boyfriend?
Twenty Five. Why do you ask?

Mama! Will you please stop dancing in front of my friends?
Why? Am I like, totally embarrassing you?

Mama! Will you drive me to the mall?
Can you wait until after I finish this chapter?

Mama! Can you turn your music down?
What’s with the attitude? Is there a reason why you’re so cranky?

Mama? Can I go to a party on Friday?
Who’s going with you? Will there be an adult present? What time will you be home?

Mama, will you help me study for my driving test?
Of course! Did you make your appointment yet?

Mama, can I borrow the car?
Yes. Will you take your brother and sister too?

Mama, what’s my social security number?
Oh you got a job application! Where are you applying?

Mama, can I borrow some money for my prom dress?
Perhaps. Will you be needing new shoes as well?

Mama- Were you nervous when you graduated?
I think everyone gets nervous. Have I told you lately how proud I am of you?

Mama? Can I take these sheets? Why are you crying?
I am going to miss you. Will you promise to call me?


Mama, how did you know Daddy was The One?
I prayed about him. Have you prayed about this guy?

Mama. Would you like to help me pick out a wedding dress?
I would be honored. Have you set a date yet?

Mama, will you and Daddy give me away?
We would be happy to. Do you have any idea how beautiful you are?

Mama… did you have heartburn when you were pregnant with me?
No, but I couldn’t eat steak for months. Are you taking your prenatal pills?

Mama, have you felt the baby kick yet?
Wow, he’s strong! Have you picked out names?

Mama? Did my water just break?
I think so! Is your overnight bag ready?

Mama! Why isn’t he going to sleep?
Did you feed him, change him, or burp him?

Mama…how do you remove crayon marks from the walls?
Have you tried vinegar and baking soda?

Mama? Would you mind babysitting for a couple of hours?
Of course I don’t mind! When was the last time they ate?

Mama! Would you please stop giving the kids candy before dinner?
No. Do you remember all the times I wanted to ring YOUR neck?

Mama, how do you make your gravy so perfect?
It’s a family recipe. Would you like me to show you?


Mama, have you and Daddy updated your will lately?
Yes, we have taken care of all that. Are you eyeballing my china again?

Mama! Will you please stop flirting with the waiter?
Oh lighten up! Are you always this grumpy?

Mama, how long are the hot flashes supposed to last?
Until you are my age. Do you have a fan next to your bed?

Mama? Do you like your new apartment?
I guess so. Kind of strange without your father around, isn’t it?

Mama? Are you feeling ok?
Just a little tired. Would you bring me some water, please?

Mama? Is your hearing aid turned up?
My hearing is fine! Why are you shouting at me?

Mama? Do you need a ride to the grocery store?
If you wouldn’t mind. Do you have time to take me?

Mama? Did you leave this mess in the bathroom?
I’m sorry, I forgot to clean up. Will you forgive me?

Mama, have you eaten all your dinner?
Yes. Can I have my dessert now?

Mama, will you say hi to Daddy for me when you get to Heaven?
I see him! Jesus? Is that you?

Oh my heavens! This made me cry like a baby! How true, and touching. Especially for those of us who are "baby boomers" and are watching their parents age before our eyes.

This is one of my favorites! The unfolding of time, and the questions at the end. My eyes haven't stopped filling up yet. I am sure you will touch many hearts with this entry.

Powerful, poignant, authentic. Thank you.
