Pricilla clung to her pillow like a frightened child. She heaved a sigh as relentless images of the day blurred her thoughts. “I feel so alone,” she sobbed.
A chill ran through her as she turned toward the window. “Oh my god,” she gasped. She tried to stifle a scream at the sight of eyes staring through her window.
Jessica’s concentration was shattered by a sudden noise outside. She adjusted her robe as she slid her feet into her fuzzy slippers. She wiggled her toes and shuffled to the window. She grasped the curtain and paused. “C’mon Jess. Get a grip.” She heaved a sigh. “You’ve got to stop reading those thrillers.”
She peered out. A pair of large green eyes stared back.
“Oh my gosh!” Jessica tried to control her breathing. A light tapping at the glass drew her attention. She lifted the curtain. “Maverick, you brat. You scared the life out of me.”
A large grey cat called out and batted the window again.
“Do you want in?” The young lady unlocked the door and cracked it open. “Get in here.” She tapped her fingers on the doorknob for several seconds. “Fine … Stay out you crazy thing.” She pushed the door closed.
“I think I’ll check my email.” Jessica glanced at her novel. “My imagination doesn’t need help … Not on a night like this. It runs away all on its own.”
She laughed.
“Stupid cat.” She logged onto her computer. “Between him and that book … Wow.” The screen filled with lines of text. “What is all this?”

She turned toward the window. “Stupid cat,” she mumbled as she heard a noise out front. The young lady pulled the curtains back and stared into the blackness. “Where are you, silly?” She glanced at her monitor once again.

A rustling at her front door startled her. “Maverick.” She yanked the door open.
A tall man wearing a trench coat and a baseball cap lurked on her porch.
“Predator!” Jessica shrieked. She pushed the door.
“Wait.” The stranger blocked the door with his foot. “Pizzas for the Johnsons.” He held up a stack of boxes.
“Holy cow,” the frightened woman panted, trying not to hyperventilate. “They’re two driveways down.”
“Thanks.” The man turned away. “Crazy broad,” he mumbled. “Scare me half to death like that.”
Jessica’s hands trembled. “Oh my.” She placed her hand on her chest heaving a sigh. Something brushed against her leg.
She slammed the door, screaming.
A familiar purr accompanied a warm fuzzy nudge against Jessica’s leg.
“Maverick … You brat.” She grabbed the cat and flopped on the couch. “How ‘bout we watch a little TV to relax?”
She clicked the remote. Pictures flickered across the screen.
Next on Unsolved Cases, a serial killer who preys on young women. Jeremy Farmer has eluded authorities for nearly half a decade. Police believe that he poses as a repair man or sales man to gain entry to his victim’s homes. He is considered extremely dangerous.
“Oh my gosh. Maverick.” Jessica buried her fingers in her cat’s fur. “Doesn’t that look like the pizza guy?”

I liked the ending, but wonder if it would have been stronger if it had the TV saying the person posed as a pizza deliverer and you left out the part about her telling the cat it looked like the same man.
Either way, it was a thrilling story and I'm glad it's daylight out because it made me a tad jumpy. Excellent writing!
