God knows when my thoughts are far from Him, and still He loves me. He loves me when the real me comes out from hiding. It’s then that I come face to face with grace.
Grace abounds when the door to my prayer closet remains closed, and when the door to the closet where I hang my hidden thoughts and deepest longings stay ajar. Too often, I spend wasted minutes in the latter. Grace abounds when I give a furtive glance in the wrong direction at failed dreams and disappointments.
Sometimes the quick glance lingers on my “wish” list and I forget how to praise from the empty place. Would I have Jesus more than anything? Today, I’m pushed towards the honest answer. I long for Him….and other things. My prayer lacks passion; my thoughts are fixed not on My Helper, but on the “helpless situation.” I fail to drink from the cup of grace so freely offered.
I forget that God hears when my heart says, “Ouch”; that He offers the #1 pain killer called Grace.
An echo rises within me.
My grace is sufficient for you, for my strength is made perfect in
your weakness (2 Cor. 12:9).
And so I take a minute to ask for grace. He freely gives and forgives, without measure.
