Maria bowed her head and looked around the dim library. Few people visited her anymore, especially after the Great Persecution began. Her family had been entrusted with protecting the Scriptures and True books. At the beginning, Christians were bold; careful but bold, and would make trips into her family's cavernous home to strengthen their faith.
She stood and slowly began to walk through the makeshift building, her fingers trailing along the dusty shelves. Works from C.S Lewis, Max Lucado, Lee Strobel, and many others called her name. These were her friends growing up. Maria learned to read on The Chronicles of Narnia and the Scriptures.
God, I'm lonely. I know that the scriptures say that it is not good for man to be alone—but, there is no one left. The reports state that the government is getting closer every day to this last holdout. Am I going to die here? In the midst of these books?
She knew what the government did to the last holdouts of Christianity. Images from the Internet told the entire story. Was it a fate that she was willing to embrace? One by one, her family members paid with their lives. Was it her turn now?
She blinked and looked around again. The cave could very easily become a funeral pyre...Maria shook her head. It would be almost a blasphemous act just to give up now.
Father! Open my eyes!
A shuddering sigh racked Maria's body as she moved closer to the opening. She needed fresh air; maybe that would clear her mind. She stepped out and continued to pray. There had to be a reason why she was left. She took a deep breath, savoring the clean air and looked around. To the east, she could see aircraft but to the north there was a strange glow. She strained her eyes and then let out a shout of joy.
Was it really? She leaned forward and squinted and laughed, no longer caring if she was seen or not. The glow on the horizon was the most beautiful sight that the library and its tomes had promised--her Savior and King!

I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war.
