Topic: Write something suitable for CHILDREN (05/31/07)
Imagine the following text set out in appropriate pairs on adjacent pages, illustrated with photographs filling a whole page and the printing over the top. It is designed to be used to promote cross-cultural work and particularly to give local children in a sense of identification in the lives of a family from their church who have moved into cross-cultural work. This story could be personalized for specific people and situations.

This is Katie. Katie is seven. Katie lives with her mummy, daddy and big brother. They live in a house in Sydney, Australia. Katie loves her family very much. (Photo – Katie and her family outside their house.)

This is Jasmine. Jasmine is seven. Jasmine lives with her mummy and daddy, grandmother and grandfather. They live in an apartment in Jinzhong, China. Jasmine loves her family very much. (Photo – Jasmine and her family outside their apartment building.)

Katie likes to eat vegemite sandwiches made from crackers with little holes. Katie always squeezes the crackers so that the vegemite comes out the little holes like worms, then she licks the worms off. Katie’s mother always rolls her eyes when she does that. Jasmine likes to eat long slippery noodles. She always sucks the noodles up like worms, splattering the noodle sauce all around her mouth like worm blood. Jasmine’s mother always rolls her eyes when she does that. (Photo – Jasmine sucking up a long noodle.)

Katie’s mother drives her to school everyday in their red car. Katie loves school. She especially loves to skip with her friends. (Photo – Katie skipping in the school playground with her mum’s car just beyond the fence.)

Katie‘s mummy and daddy teach her about God. On Sundays, Katie goes to Sunday School. (Photo – Katie at Sunday School … ideally the kids who receive this book will be a part of that Sunday School.)

I like the idea and the layout. I don't think a publishing company would go with the repeated lines, and they'd probably want more detail about life in China v. the U.S./Australia, but it's still possible with a little more variety in it. I can see missionary societies picking it up.

I love the idea of this, and you did some wonderful contrasts between the two girls. I think this would be extremely effective in your aim!

I think this is GREAT! You gave us pictures. I can see the book as you described it. What a perfect message too. This was very creative. I like it A LOT.
