Topic: Write in the POETRY genre (05/17/07)
She is a fierce warrior
The leader of the pack
Mender of paws, scooper of poop

Eight leashes grow from her outstretched arms
Eight tentacles, each with a mind of its own
Yorkie, Corgi, Labrador Retriever
Beagle, Cocker, Poodle, Pug
And don’t forget the mutt, the All-American breed

She wields her waste bags like a weapon
Tiny, scented plastic sheaths spun tightly in a spool on her hip
Cleaning up after her charges
Each one sitting serenely, eight peas in a pod
Sixteen eyes watching, waiting for her to finish her housekeeping

On the move once again
The sun’s warmth waltzing across her back
The tree-lined path is her office, the park bench her desk
The suburban sidewalk is her Iditarod trail
Mush!

Thirty two paws prance on the pavement
Gleeful yips fill her ears
Furry tails wave before her, flags from eight different nations
Some curly, some silky, some tightly wound, some straight
All blissfully happy, banners of contentment and joy

They travel as one
Manuevering through puddles, across asphalt plains
A thirty-four-footed super spider, creeping through the neighborhood
People smile and point at their presence
A canine army and their fearless commander

She is a fierce warrior
The leader of the pack
Mender of paws, scooper of poop

Only one obstacle can break her peaceful reverie
A fearsome force looming up ahead
She spins around and retreats, urging the others to follow
Maybe they won’t notice the evil lurking in their midst
What wickedness is this?
Eek! A cat.

I'll admit to being doubtful at the title ... but this is well thought out and the construction is great! And the last line brought it all together. Good job!

This actually reminds me a little bit of Carl Sandburg's famous poem about Chicago--I love the line "scooper of poop." I'm just weird that way.

I love this! I laughed out loud at the "scooper of poop." My son is "starting a business." His "brochure" says, "Got Poop? I'll Scoop!" LOL
