TITLE: Threadbare | Previous Challenge Entry

She sat upon her rocking horse
Its motion soothed her pain,
Afraid to move, she grabbed on tight
While tears fell forth like rain.
Her tattered dress was floral print
With mangled bows of red,
She fiddled with the dirty lace
And pulled a dangling thread.
A piece unraveled like the seams
That loosened ‘round her heart,
If only needles and some thread
Could mend each damaged part.
The fabric of her life’s been sewn
By hands that did not love,
Just hurtful words and empty arms
Were all that she knew of.
The pain she reaped was not deserved
Abuse had woven strife,
The patches that were put in place
Could not repair her life.
Neglect had left her heart threadbare
All hope eroded thin,
Her wish to know parental love
Stayed buried deep within.
The time had come to mend the seams
And God now held the thread,
For he would guide the needle through
Each part that once had bled.
He mended all the rips and holes
To blot out all her pains,
He ironed all the wrinkled parts
And banished all the stains.
For not one child should know the life
That she once had to live,
They all deserve the healing touch
That only God can give.
The fabric of her life’s been darned
Each thread’s secure and tight,
Her Tailor used a special stitch
That made each wrong so right.
For now the pieces of her dress
Are mended, fresh and new,
The rigors of a tattered past
No longer will ensue.
Now more mature with hair of gray
Her mind recalled those days,
With no regrets, she’d change not one
To God she owes her praise.
He sat upon her rocking chair
And held his precious child,
She gazed upon her perfect dress
And hugged the Lord and smiled.

Child abuse is a frightening truth. Eighty percent of abusers are a parent or someone close to a child. Unfortunately, only a small percentage will be reported, though God knows all about it. He can ease the pain.

"For not one child should know the life
That she once had to live." For all of those abused children, for all of those rape victims...my heart yearns to let them know that there is a place where they can become "as white as snow," and that's at the feet of Jesus, alongside the rest of us, for no one is clean, on their own. We've had this in our family, and, as I watch my precious granddaughter grow, I am dumbfounded how people can do these things to little children...but then, again, I remember that Satan now runs loose in the world. One day he will be banished...but, until then, keep writing and standing up for these precious children. Threadbare no more! Excellent!
