Topic: Craft (as in handcraft) (02/08/07)
She is weaving a tapestry for you. It will adorn a wall of your mansion, the one your Redeemer has prepared. This is the Weaver’s only purpose, and it is her joy: to listen to Him answering your prayers, and to weave those answers into this heavenly fabric.

Her nimble fingers work the threads—now she fills a corner with intricate stitches and knots; now she rests and waits.

She has only three colors.

With her deft needle pulling a trail of red, the Weaver records yes and yes and yes on the warp, the fabric of your days. A tiny flower of scarlet: yes, says the Redeemer, I will give you the perfect word for that pesky sentence. An expanse of crimson: yes, the Savior speaks, I will draw your wayward daughter to Myself.

The Weaver’s supply of red is inexhaustible. Again and again she pierces the white-as-snow fabric with a flame-colored thread. Yes. I delight in saying it again, My child. Yes.

A supply of blue threads is close at hand. The Weaver sometimes sets aside the needle of yes and selects an azure skein; your Lord has said no. She works a section of water, near the center of the tapestry. My precious, this healing is not for you. No.

Now she takes a bit of cornflower and stitches the sky. No. I have heard your prayer, dearest. I love you; trust me. Not this job. The Weaver smiles—she knows that when you see the completed tapestry, you will understand the necessity of no. Her hands place patches of periwinkle, aquamarine, slate.

Red for yes, blue for no, and one more color adorns your tapestry. The Weaver chooses a lemony yellow, and stitches with deliberation: wait. Canary: tarry. Honey: have patience. Amber: abide with Me, just for a while. The sun shines in your tapestry, casting a golden glow into every warp and weft.

When you enter your mansion, you will marvel at your tapestry of answered prayers. And you will see what beauty the Weaver has created, with her skillful blending of that trinity of colors. Yes, no and wait have become magenta and mandarin, olive and orchid, nutmeg and nile. Every answer has become part of the tapestry, and every stitch and knot is exactly where it belongs.

I enjoyed this story. It was unique and I loved the idea of the colors representing God's anwers to our prayers.

This was such an interesting and unique piece of writing. A deeper read--very creative. I loved the use of alliteration in the sentence: “Yes, no and wait have become magenta and mandarin, olive and orchid, nutmeg and nile.” I also liked your word choice in the “…trinity of colors.” Very talented writing. I really liked this!

So I am asking myself why you don't like this piece. The message? Surely not, it is spot-on true, and important, to boot. The writing? Well, it's tender, evocative and skillful. The metaphor? Beautifully spun and woven. Nope, you've got me stumped. Wouldn't surprise me if you have another winner here!

Like previous comments this is - how do Americans put it, awesome? We have some experiences in common I believe- Grief, Special Needs, Depression. I read recently that God sometimes needs people with these experiences to provide a gateway for others (Margaret Silf- Adventure in Prayer)
