A kiss as gentle as the mountain’s sun
draws and eases by sweet words so pleasing.
Just one taste is all this deed needs done.
Enticement lures the woman in the stillness,
Temptation strokes young Eden’s high veiled face.
Angels ready to hold back the Serpent,
but God’s great Hand stays them in their place.
All creation shudders in the silence,
leaning into every halting breath.
Will the queen of Eden grasp the treasure
offered her by demon’s lying lips?
“No,” breathes every creature in the garden.
“No,” resounds all Heaven’s endless parts.
On the heights of Eden’s holy mountain
God, in silence trusts the woman’s heart.
Oh, the fruit shines bright that God has guarded!
“Take,” the Serpent’s voice invites once more,
“Do not keep such sweets from your enjoyment.
Surely just a touch God won’t deplore.”
“Yes, surely just a touch!” and Eve reached for it.
Gasps from every corner of the skies
echoed through the glistening tears of Eden
as the queen’s own actions love denied.
“How can something grown here on this mountain
be withheld from me?” This thought now raced
through the mind of Eve as she held closer
this sweet fruit she now began to taste.
Thunder bold as hell rose from the valley.
Lightning bolted from the darkening sky.
Rain in torrents from the heart of Heaven
ran in rivers down the mountain’s sides.
Sin’s dread mud stole from the cliff’s of Eden
every good and holy fruit once held
on the boughs that grew in bounty’s beauty
as the cries from all creation swelled.
Groaning in the valley of death’s dungeon,
mankind reeled in gardens now decayed.
How could such a crushing debt be banished?
How could such a trespass be repaid?
Silence in the heavens seemed unending.
Then the Voice of God rose from the pall.
Speaking with His Son, the Father pleaded,
“Will you go to save them, one and all?”
“Will You to the Valley go to free them?
Will You walk in paths of shame undue?
Will You die Yourself to bring them to Me?
Suffer shadows that will cover You?”
“Father, ask me not to leave Your presence.
How could such a parting be endured?
Yet, I in obedience do Your bidding.
May their lives in Your own be restored.”
Down into the Valley went the Savior.
Down into the mud of human tears.
Down into the Death that reigned as victor.
Down into the earth of sin and fear.
All creation gathered in the twilight.
Every being watched the setting sun,
groaning in the Sacrifice they witnessed
as the Savior died that man be won.
Silence shouted in the dreadful waiting.
Three days passed in seeming endless night.
Then a Morning Brilliant as the Heavens
ended every fear with God’s Own Light!
Up from Death’s dark Valley came the Savior!
Up! Triumphant over sin and shame!
Up to greet the Father in the Heavens,
bringing all to bow at Jesus Name!
Eden from the valley rose to meet Him
as the Son bore Eve from Serpent harms.
All creation sang with Joy unending!
Eve is safe within the Father’s arms!
