I have thought of you often. Now, I lay waiting.
As the time draws near, I bear the constant ache of my womb. Through my labor of love I cry, but the tears I shed are also those of joy. I now wait patiently to feel your sweet breath upon my face…to hold you close to me. I yearn to love you and fulfill my role as the mother of a King.
In the glow of the evening sky, I notice a warm, soothing comfort that is ours. I know the night canvas has been painted for only this moment in time. Three brilliant stars suddenly emerge from the darkness and the light of the world is born.
As I grasp your little hand and hold you near my heart, I realize my beats will be changed forever. They are in tune with the Master and I must follow the song He has composed for you. I know my God will mold me and use me for His purpose. I was chosen and blessed to be the one to receive His most precious gift.
I whisper praises to Him.
I know there will be other pains to endure as your mother, though I want only goodness and love to surround your days. I want no fear, nor heartache, nor lonely paths for you. I want only joy and light to be your companions.
Like all others, your steps are numbered and your journey is already determined. Undoubtedly, struggles and difficulties will follow you through your life as you bring God’s message to His children. Thankfully, the goodness and protection of our Father has fallen upon us. He will lead you in the direction you need to go and guide me to be the mother I need to be. My devoted, maternal heart earnestly desires to send you my way – a way without strife. However, His way will prevail.
I gaze at you with sadness and have the knowledge that you aren’t meant for me alone. I will one day release our grasp and share you with your Father’s world. His plan for you will unfold and your purpose will be much greater than mine or anyone’s will ever be. God will raise your eyes toward the heavens so you may see Him as well as the ultimate reason you are here. Your vision will remain fixed above and you will never falter. Tirelessly, you will serve your Father and we will both proudly call you son.
I am basking in the new moments of your life. Joseph proclaims your name to be Jesus…and so it shall be. We are the start of a new, holy family on a journey of hope and infinite love.
I take Joseph’s hand now and lay my head down to rest. I dream of the man God will mold you to be.

Time has come for me to release my grasp on your hand. With heavy sorrow and buried pride, I watch you stumble again and again with your wooden cross that is crafted as the object of your pain and sacrifice.
With my outstretched arms, I beg to hold you close and want desperately to remove your misery. The truth that clings to your walk up the hill draws wracking sobs from the depths of me. As I wipe away the moisture that settles above my lip, I look toward the brilliant sky to find our Father – just as I did on that glorious night you were born. I know only He can ease my suffering. However, this time, my search for Him is much different. My eyes are not blurry with tears of joy, but with tears of despair.
This day, you will lay down your life for God’s children. And, just as I watched you enter this world as your mother, I will observe your excruciating departure with you as my Savior.
Your Father is waiting for you, and with searing pain, I reluctantly give you away.
The only peace our Father gives me at this moment is that there is no greater purpose in this world than Yours…to change the hearts and souls of mankind forevermore.

This is so beautifully written. I love the voice you have given to Mary in these two monumental points of the purpose of her life, and Jesus's as well.
How can we even entertain a movie or book like Da Vinci code that calls this purpose into question? We owe it to God, to Jesus, and to Mary to honor Jesus's death and the pain and suffering he endured for US, and that she endured watching for us. It makes my heart sick to think how she must feel when people question what her precious Jesus did for us.
Sorry, didn't mean to go off on that tangent, but your story is beautiful and very pertinent to the present controversy!
Blessings, Lynda
Truly, a "sword pierced her soul." You did a great job telling the story.
