I have accomplished my goal—a perfect example of how it should be.
“‘Look, everyone! See how hard I have worked to reach my dreams.”
Surely anyone can see that I’m the best in the nation, perhaps in the world.
Wearing my gold medal, I clutch my trophy and wave to the cheering crowds.
An inner voice whispers, “You are proud. Give honor to whom it is due.”
Actually, I’ll admit that I couldn’t have done it all by myself.
My loving family and faithful friends supported me. I owe much to them.
God also provided great teachers, tough coaches, and worthy competitors.
I suppose they had a crucial part in my training, my path to the top.
But I was diligent and I focused and I sacrificed so many things.
Of course, I am proud. Why shouldn’t I be? I attained my goal.
If you want to improve your life, I’ll give my expertise advice.
Where is everyone going? You’re supposed to be my friends.
I don’t understand. Don’t you want to share in my success?
I’m famous. I’m special. I’m a hero!
Or at least, I was, for a while.
Who am I now?
Humbly, I bow my head,
Knowing that all I am
Is nothing—empty.
All the honor and glory
Belong to
God
