I expect the day to dawn because of you
and all of earth’s life-sources to meet at your counsel throne
to hear the orders of the times that are in you mind
moreover obeying those changes that are born anew to them but not you
I look to you with expectancy for my fellow travellers
that together we will succumb on our daily journey to your will and not ours

I expect the day to follow into the night of your keeping
there you commune with and direct followers along your pathway
delivering the stumbling ones from despair and disappointment
allotting transformation through your treasures of the night
there you minister within the spirit of man in his dark struggles
moreover you rejoice together when your joy brings light in morning

I expect your directions in all the daily throes of life
to keep me true to you and for freedom to reign supreme in face of captivity
may your staff and crook and shepherd’s heart encapsulate me
break my heart and my soul that I may walk humbly in your ways
I know you watch over and keep close to the faith-walkers who trust in your equity
there is also confidence that you will forever administer justice

I expect I will fail you many times by the human default embedded in my nature
nevertheless you will work with my faith to drag me from the clutches of self
I walked in confidence yet soon fell when your helping hand was shunned
now a daily hope is the goad that spurs me on to the higher ground
a strength from outside the natural forces that gives confidence to my steps
now walking boldly through life’s days to relish my undeserved desserts in life

I expect your heart of love to woo the wanderer from a lifeless existence
giving assurance of hopeful travelling and faith to face the future
to traverse with you along a briar path is safer than a known way
to fall from a great height into your arms is more secure than infant in crib
dangers of life dissipate when expectant faith holds sway
you reward those who trust that you are in control of all future events

I expect my earth existence to run the course recorded in your book of my life
I expect to remain true in that life span to one who is able to keep me from falling
I expect mercy if I take my eyes off Jesus and stumble by my own foolishness
I expect to encourage and join with others on this journey of life
I expect one day to complete my journey here below
then I expect to enter glory on the wings of angels
