to the old tent meeting
and placed me
on the backside—of the open side,
for safety’s sake, away from the isle
in case the spirit moved
while the preacher preached
sight to the blind
freely given if claimed by faith
by those born, defected,
seed of some sin, unknown
to them, until revealed
to give—give the preacher bid,
give it and claim it
to open heaven’s door
I turned my chair around
toward a nearby sassafras tree
basking in the root beer fragrance
so sweet, I wondered if the tree
retained the scent of Holy
like God’s breath
beckoning, joyously,
came the bird’s hymn, heavenly
music to my ears
superseding the tent roar,
it testified, majestically
like angels or the distant thunder
arousing, announcing, alerting
of His presence—I became aware
my foot stirred
the smell of earth,
my own creation, humbled me
and I was fed
my soul, my senses, gently, softly
feasted on the banquet
privately set for me
beyond the tent,
where they expected me to see
I tasted the Lord
as they sang,
“Bring down the rain” inside
a soft handed breeze outside
dripped raindrop wine upon my tongue.
I communed and refused to move
to join their dance
so they pitied me—their belief
of my lack of faith
bled through sorrowful voices
that would not listen,
as they led me away—all they could see
was me—unhealed
but I walked away glad—oh so glad,
I could not see the blind faces
that believed I missed God tonight.
1 Peter 2:2-3: Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.
Footnote: I pray no one is offended by the setting and content...If you are I apologize in advance! I definitely believe in healing and love revival meetings. I just don’t always agree with the approach of some people or groups that seems to want to keep God in a box. I know God touches and feeds people in His way, heals or doesn't heal for His reasons and works outside of, and in spite of, foolish and empty “religious” notions or rituals.

Just so well-written, and loved the imagery and the metaphors you supplied. Especially the smell of "root beer" from the tree. Great job. Thanks.
God Bless~
A great reply to the view that people aren't healed because they lack faith - one of the most brutal things we can say to anyone. Our faith is in God; rather than in how much faith we have.
Excellent work
FYI, I saw the note at the end, and appreciate it. Though I know without a doubt that Jesus did purchase healing for us on the cross, I also know that faith can't be forced - it has to come through relationship with the author and finisher of it, according to Hebrews 12:1-2. Anything else is witchcraft, a work of the flesh. And that's something we as Christians do not need.
Besides, it sounds as if your MC has already received the greatest miracle of all: salvation!
God bless you,
Camille~
