They claim to own their bodies, budding babes will never cry
In fancy suit and leather shoes he defends the one at fault
The justice system fails when the sentence adds up naught
In the house where leaders rule some follow creeds of greed
Betraying their positions, ignoring nation’s needs
Shadows hide the pushers who infect without a care
Money changes hands and each victim needs a prayer
Raging violence kills but dead souls do not writhe
Into the plots of evil, that’s where they put their tithe.
Righteous fingers point, knees bend, heads bow
Thinking that they’re purer, much better somehow
But did they help the beggar who on the corner stood
Or give of their time or minister where they could
When tongues lie just a little does that mean they haven’t lied
When judging from a pedestal humble needs are oft denied
When was the last time a heartfelt prayer was said
Or for a stranger’s sacrifice a grateful tear was shed
In spirit driven consciousness repentance will prevail
In meekness at the cross sinners throw away their nails.
If from each mistake one turns with deep regrets
Be assured He smiles and for certain won’t forget
Every circumstance, each action in His book recorded
Choices made rest in the scales, free will to each afforded
A criminal in sorrow for each hell-bent transgression
Kneels before God’s altar offering his sincere confession
A haughty heart convinced heaven holds for her a room
Though never in her heart has a kindness ever bloomed
End of life accounts will be balanced with perfection
Deposits and withdrawals will determine one’s direction.
