A vast army battles within me.
Deluded, dejected, and out of my mind,
I struggle to regain my sanity.
I entered this tomb seeking solace and peace,
Desiring to be left alone.
But silence has grown at a deafening pace.
And then all at once rings the phone!
Normally I would ignore such a call,
But this ring is truly unique.
A voice like a waterfall reaches my ear.
Listening, I hear it speak.
"Run to me, Lazarus, run unto me.
You haven't escaped my detection.
Depart your cold cavern of captivity.
I'm your resurrection connection."
Like whispers of heaven this radiant rhyme
Creates in my brain a sensation.
Throughout my whole body an anthem it sings,
Striking chords of unmatched revelation.
The soldiers inflaming my veins and shot nerves
Struggle to keep this man bound.
But Christ's love outgoing compels me to seek
That mansion atop higher ground.
"Jesus, don't banish us from this warm house,"
Pleads the pestilence stalking within me,
Whose scurrilous stronghold I vow to resist,
Fighting Legion with all of my energy.
The turmoil increases; they jostle about,
Perceiving their fortress is shaking.
For all of me longs to be rid of those ghouls,
Thus my entire body is quaking.
Loathe to withdraw their derisory claws,
It seems they've prepared a new deal.
"Do let us enter that fat herd of swine,"
The desperate phantoms do squeal.
He gives them permission, and suddenly I
Find peace washing over my soul.
I'm longer crazy, but in my right mind,
My sifted reins sealed, healed and whole.
The love, peace and joy I feel flooding my life
Are like an immense weight of glory.
I'd love just to bask in His presence all day,
But He says, "Go forth, share your story."
So out I sail bravely to tell the whole world
The way my Lord saved me and healed me.
Onward I march with my banner unfurled,
To share the deliverance given me.
Now some old men-fishers with tongue-tangled nets
Consider my methods too bold.
"You'll scare them away with that high-strung approach,
Low key's the style gets the bait sold."
But the best way I know to evangelize folks
Is to go with the way that he taught me,
Obeying the Giver of every good gift,
Who sought me and bought me and caught me.
