Earth’s tormented table
(beneath pastoral plenitude
buckling and sheering)
deplores its fault-lines.
Poisoned.
The tranquil river
(sluggish bearer
of toxicity)
murmurs in distaste.
Blasted.
The barren wasteland
(where mighty forests
once presided)
burgeons with longing.
Parched.
The heavy corn-heads
(shrivelled harvest
of desiccation)
crave relief.
Cursed.
The gurgling infant
(time-bomb lurking
in every cell)
cries in frustration.
Flayed.
The doting mother
(prostrate upon
a tiny grave)
rawly weeps.
Stripped.
The unmade mind
(palace of reason
softly toppled)
seeks joy for its laughter.
Trapped.
The haunted girls
(commodities cheap
for exploitation)
beg release.
Shredded.
The tender hands
of empty-eyed
factory children
supplicate.
Trashed.
The two inch fetus
(perfect form
suctioned from life)
awaits justice.
Smitten.
The gummy eyes
of a fly-infested
AIDS-riddled child
implore.
The riven. The poisoned. The blasted. The parched. The cursed. The flayed.
The stripped. The trapped. The shredded. The trashed. The smitten.
Their wordless cries
Shriek like knives
Flock like starlings
Spiral like smoke.
Jesus!
Hope of the nations.
Hope of creation.
Come, Lord Jesus,
Come.

We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. Rom 8 v 22-25
In his name the nations will put their hope. Matt 12 v 21
He who testifies to these things says, "Yes, I am coming soon."
Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. Rev 22 v 20
