We walked out of the garden and it looked like we were heading for the beach. Hey Lord, I’ll follow you to surf and sand anytime! But noooo, suddenly my Lord made a sharp right turn and I found myself following Him down into my Aorta.
“Ah, master? It’s a very pretty day, and I know how much you love beach combing, and I was thinking, ah, maybe we could walk on water today or something?”
Wasted pleas. We were headed deep in to the depths of my heart, oh boy.
Soon we were confronted by a big guard standing right next to my Ductus Arteriosus, which keeps blood from flowing back into the pulmonary artery. We weren’t getting by this guard, not until Jesus engulfed him in an enormous hug.
“Son, this is the sentry I commissioned to guard your heart. His brother is on duty in your mind. See how big and strong he is? That’s because you’ve been in the Word lately. Keep it up!”
The guard let us by and we began traveling down my left ventricle. We past the AV node and then the mitral valve and I knew we were headed right for the bottom of my heart, oh no.
Along the way I showed Jesus places where my heart and been broken and torn, and thanked him for His healing. He just smiled, put his arm around me, and we kept walking. Soon we were confronted by another guard, slumped in front of a rusty cage door.
I had to reach down and shake him to wake him up.
“Halt, who goes there?”
“And who is this?” Jesus asked me.
“Oh, him? That’s, ah, Boregard. I hired him to watch this area a long time ago .”
How embarrassing.
“And just what are you guarding?“ Jesus asked Bo.
Bo lowered his rusty civil war rifle, took off his hat, and bowed to Jesus.
“Sir, your Holiness. You really don’t want to go no further down this road. Pardon me, I don’t mean no disrespect, but there are things behind me that would curl your hair. And they are violent critters, too. They done knocked me down and out more than a time or two when they got loose!”
A tremendous roar interrupted Bo. I stepped back. Jesus didn’t move.
“There, that’s one of ‘em now! Didn’t I tell ya?”
Bo shot me an angry look. I ducked behind Jesus, who pushed by Bo, and went right for the lock on the cage.
“Passions.” Jesus said flatly.
“Yup,” replied Bo. “I’d say that’s what they are. Nasty things, some of ‘em. Ah, that lock’s there for a purpose, Lord. I wouldn‘t go in there if I were you.”
Jesus had already yanked off the lock and disappeared in to the cage.
Suddenly there were screams, and more roars, and wailing and eventually a whimpering. Jesus reappeared at the broken cage door, holding a purring kitten, joyously loving His face; licking him, and rubbing his head in and out of His beard.
“This should be your only passion,” he said placing the kitten at his feet. “If you take care of him and raise him right you won’t need Boregard to watch this area of your heart anymore.”
We left the cat there, but took Boregard with us. After dropping Bo at the old soldier’s home The Lord and I had a great time on the beach the rest of the day. We didn’t do any water walking, but I felt a miracle working inside me. As it purred so did I, an so did my relationship with my Lord and others.

My great-grandfather hangs on our living room wall proudly wearing his Civil War uniform. So I plugged right in with Boregard. :-)
