Your wisdom I implore,
I'm falling into deep despair,
And can't endure much more.
This morning at the crack of dawn,
Outside my warm domain,
I saw, bedraggled, on my lawn,
The future of my pain ...
... Three kittens in the rain.
With silent mews and pleading eyes,
They begged to come inside,
Each tiny face dressed in the guise,
Of Love Personified.
LORD, how could I have ever known,
What shrewdness lie within?
For this mistake, I will atone,
For when I let them in ...
... Three kittens shared one grin.
I must admit, they had me fooled,
By letting me enjoy,
Those fleeting moments I still ruled ¾
A most effective ploy.
They purred and pranced with tails erect,
They cuddled, napped, and played,
I had no reason to suspect,
Much less, to be afraid ...
... Three kittens on parade.
I feared things first had gone awry,
When they exposed their claws,
And kept me running to apply,
More iodine and gauze.
Protect me, LORD, from needle teeth,
I don't wish to be harmed,
Secure their weapons in their sheath ¾
I'm growing quite alarmed ...
... Three kittens fully armed.
This afternoon I sought repose,
Within my favorite chair,
But quickly learned my furry foes,
Had worked their mischief there.
The scattered foam torn from inside,
Made playthings in the sun,
But when I asked, they all denied,
The damage they had done ...
... Three kittens having fun.
Off to my office, drenched in fear,
I flew in forced retreat,
But close behind me I could hear,
A dozen tiny feet.
I'd almost conquered my concerns,
Until they sprang their trap;
They swarmed my keyboard, taking turns,
In giving keys a whap ...
... Thr3E k!tt3n$ oN m¥ l&p.
Tonight I cooked my favorite dish,
(It made those kittens drool)
A casserole of rice and fish,
Which needed time to cool.
But missing was the savory slice,
Much to my own chagrin,
With only paw prints in the rice,
Where my fillet had been ...
... Three kittens dining in.
Day is done; it’s time for bed,
To thee, O LORD, I pray,
For strength to overcome my dread,
And face another day.
My long and solitary life,
Has set me in my ways,
I’m far too old to cope with strife,
Brought on by wayward strays ...
... Three kittens sit and gaze.
What’s this? Three kittens at my feet,
Around my legs caress,
My ears are filled with purrs so sweet,
They soothe my mind from stress.
Perhaps my prayers were premature,
Now knowing from the start,
The emptiness I would incur,
If they were to depart ...
... Three kittens stole my heart.
