Control- To exercise authority over; govern
Romans 8:8
So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
The above scripture is the bottom line on God’s feelings concerning man’s flesh. The flesh seeks to govern man; to be in complete control of the mind, the emotions, and every member of the body. So how does one man control such a powerful flesh? A flesh that dictates when it’s time to eat and time to sleep. A flesh that battles for control over not only what goes in our mouth but what comes out as well. How is it possible for a man to control the very thing that has proudly dominated in a position of authority since the day of his birth?
The only answer is: by the Spirit of God that actively lives on the inside of every believer. The Spirit that is waiting to be utilized so that it may sprout up into a position that will allow Him to overcome and reign in the place of the flesh. Unlike the flesh, the Spirit is a gentleman and will not force Himself upon anyone. For this reason, it is necessary for man to inform the flesh of his desire for the Spirit to be in the position of power and authority in his life.
Roman 8:13
For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
In order to truly live in Christ, we have to allow the Spirit to take precedence over the flesh. If we are children of God then the Spirit of our Father is alive on the inside of us. It is through His Spirit that we are able to deny the flesh and thus live eternally. We have to control the flesh because the only reward for being obedient to the flesh is Death! Can you afford to pay the price of life itself? There is no reason to do so because Christ already paid the price.
1 Cor 6:22-23
For he that is called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord’s freeman: likewise also he that is called, being free, is Christ’s servant. Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men.
You owe nothing to the flesh. Quite contrary, you owe everything you are to your Lord & Saviour, Jesus Christ. Knowing the price that Christ paid so that we could proclaim liberty should make us, the children of God, stand firm and conquer our flesh.
Ephesians 6:10
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might.
