Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
STOP.
We all know the meaning of a red light. It says STOP for to go further can be dangerous. In fact to go further is dangerous if you are on a collision course with another vehicle.
Take care and take note where you are right now. Is temptation knocking at your door? The first and most important commandment is to love the Lord your God with all your heart … and the second that you will have no other gods before Him. What other gods are rearing their heads in your life? They can include self-will, self-justification and selfishness. What keeps us happy and contented such as the good opinions of others, sports prowess, successful work ethics or money-making potential can all threaten derailment from the pedestal we make for ourselves. Alternately we can indulge in the lies that Satan is still using – Did God really say …? The times we are living in are rife with the execution of Paul’s words in Romans 1 : 18-32 warning of the wrath of God.
CAUTION.
Satan looks for our weaknesses and is ready to challenge those issues of susceptibility by firing his fiery darts of temptation when we are most vulnerable. We need to exercise caution when we are feeling complacent in our faith. What is frightening is that the disciples walked with Jesus, yet were in danger when they relied on their own strength. Jesus knew of Judas’ betrayal, Peter’s disowning of Him and the doubting of Thomas. But He promised them the Holy Spirit who would guide, comfort and equip them.
GO.
As Jesus said to His disciples, He says to us. “All authority in heaven and earth has been given to me. Therefore GO and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit …” That’s the green light, but the red and amber show first. Let us make sure that we have our priorities right and are resting in the righteousness of our Lord with no red stop signs halting our walk.
