Incessant storms of life strike
at inconvenient times
call on me when less ready
impose themselves like gatecrashers
come to me as unwelcome guests
descend on me like unpleasant visitors
mock me till I freak
They are stalemates that checkmate
issues range from financial marital
relational vocational medical
spiritual emotional
family or market place
I long for a refuge
a place to shelter
a safe heaven or retreat
so that I won’t be snuffed off
like a smouldering wick
or a bruised weed that break
Will the Man who stills the storms
trade my sorrows and pains
for His shalom peace
The One who declares
Come to me all those who’re heavy laden
and I’ll give you rest
Surely He’ll sympathise
with me and understand my needs
for He once lived as a man
Help me Dear Lord
to listen to Your still small voice
in the midst of the storms
that assail my life
May I quiet my spirit
to hear Your word afresh
and learn again the various facets
of Your steadfast love
embedded in tests and trials
perhaps a new vision or direction
