More than twenty years now seemed like just a day that had passed since the six of us had been together like this. With persistent phone calls and determination in her voice, Vicky had urged us all to be there.
I felt honored to be included in such company. These women were precious pearls I had found along life's journey. It was one of those cherished moments reminding me of the value of friendships, and what a blessing Vickie was in all of our lives...
Gentle, kind, and forgiving,
those are her special gifts.
For many years I've witnessed
her constancy without any shifts.
A relentless stream of energy,
God's chosen is her name.
Morning tasks begin her days,
none of them being the same.
She doesn't grasp her own beauty.
She's humble to a tee.
Her loveliness shines from inside out;
it isn't missed by me.
She's always there to laugh and cry
whenever I seek advice.
Putting others first, her tireless goal,
nothing else will suffice.
In those times of darkness,
when few friends could be found,
her steady faithfulness to me
held firm in solid ground.
I'm not sure that she knows it,
an example she's been to me
of God's radiant spirit,
a witness for all to see.
Graceful and endearing,
that, no one can deny.
A gem of splendor, gift from God,
with that, I cannot lie.
Our friendship planned since the beginning
God knew just what we'd need.
God of mercy, God of hope,
God of true friendships indeed.
