All the creatures do believe,
It is urgent to tell and show,
About that Christmas long ago.
One barred owl, upon her nest,
Hoots to gather all the rest:
“Come quickly and gather near, a wondrous story you will hear.”
Two thrush sit on twigs and snow,
Warble in sweet voices low:
“Angels appeared to Mary, and said, “Child, don’t be wary.”
Three wise bears bring savoring,
A pot, fruit, and flavoring.
“For your son,” the thrush call, “will be Savior to us all.”
Four white-tailed deer in the trees,
Feel the gentle winter breeze,
Tell of His Birth: “It was foretold, by the prophet in days of old.”
Five red foxes from a pride,
Spoke of the long trip on the roadside:
“Mary rode on a donkey’s back while Joseph walked with the large pack.”

Six blue jays add bark, nuts, and seed,
From which the creatures soon will feed.
“No room in the inn for the King,” the birds in chorus “whisper- sing”.
Seven raccoons, black and white,
Recount the skies that sacred night:
“A star to shepherds did appear, to lead them to the stable near."
Eight snowshoe hares with pure white fur,
Thump their feet and softly teeth-purr:
"The herdsman saw the angels bright,” who said, “God’s son is born this night.”
Nine field mice come scampering close,
Whispering to the baby does:
“She laid him on the manger bed, so the baby could rest his head.”
Ten chipmunks praise the Savior’s name,
“He was the Prince of Peace who came.
God’s greatest gift of love to man,
From time’s onset was in His plan.”
Eleven wolves lift their keen ears,
So that every word they can hear,
Next year they will be able to tell,
The story they all know so well.
Twelve church bells ring; it’s Christmas day,
All the animals bow to pray,
To share in nature’s tasty stew,
And remember Jesus’ birthday, too.
On the stroke of midnight,
When the stars are most bright,
Listen to all the beasts outside,
As they talk on the Yuletide.
