Katrina Mendez stumbled down the sidewalk. It was pouring down rain, bitterly cold, and totally dark. There was no moving traffic, no one else around, and the storm had knocked out the street lights. She pulled her hoodie up over her head, tightened the drawstrings and continued to walk. She had no idea where she was or where she was going but knew she had to find shelter somewhere. She hadn't eaten in days, nausea rumbled from her stomach, climbed up into her throat and threatened to erupt at any moment. She crouched down, hit the cold concrete slab and vomited. Her stomach was so empty nothing but bile came forth. She trembled and wiped her mouth with the end of her jacket. The fowl odor hit her nostrils and she passed out, falling backwards.
The rain continued to pelt down, hitting Katrina full in the face. Subconsciously she fought back slapping at what felt like a million bees swarming around her. She moaned and rolled back and forth swinging her arms in the air then sat up. She covered her face with her hands, shook uncontrollably and began to cry. “I can't take it anymore,” she said, “Please, Lord just go ahead and take me home.”
“Not yet, my child,” a voice said, “It's not time.” Katrina jerked and looked up. There standing before her was a man who looked a lot like the pictures of Jesus she used to see when she would go visit her grandmother. “Is that you Jesus?”
“Yes, child,” he said, “It's me and I am with you always.”
“It's too late,” Katrina replied, “It's just too late for me. I've tried, Lord, I've done the best I can but I just don't know what to do anymore. It seems like the harder I try, the worst things get.”
“Well what is it exactly Katrina that you are trying to do?” Jesus asked.
“ I don't know,” she muttered. “ I think I just need to feel loved...just truly loved.”
Jesus knelt down before her and placed a hand on each of her trembling shoulders. “Look at me, Katrina.” She slowly raised her head. “No,” He said, “Really look at me and seek me with all your heart.”
“I don't understand,” Katrina cried, “I have tried to find you. I went to church, I was baptized, I tried to read the Bible and I tried to pray, but you weren't there and neither was anyone else. What's wrong with me? Why can't someone love me?”
“I love you my child,” Jesus said, “And I've been right here beside you all along. But you wouldn't accept me or let me love you Katrina. You searched and searched in all the wrong places and in all the wrong ways. You see my child, I created you and I know you inside out. Before you were even born I knew the path you would have to walk before you really and truly would seek me with all your being. I have had your entire life in my hands all along. Are you ready now Katrina? Are you ready to let me in your heart and take over your life? I know the plans I have made for you and God sent me to pay for all your sins past, present, and future. That's why I paid the sacrifice over 2000 years ago and was crucified on an old rugged cross. Every drop of blood that dripped down and flowed from my body was for you Katrina. You see my child....my love is unconditional and there is nothing or anyone that can ever take that away from you because my type of love is one that only I, your heavenly father, can provide. I am the way, the truth, and the life.”
