pencil and my mind
sleepily dulled,
Papers once filled with ardor
Thoughts not spilled
Laugh out loud.
Pencil shavings drifting . . .
Graduate to fountain pen,
Inkwell filled to
overflow,
Scratching bits of parchment loose,
Digging tunnels,
ink too slow.
I miss the grace of curlicues.
The ballpoint pen quite merrily
Wed to parchment
strongly bond,
Escaping thoughts, black and white
Forever caught, of these
I’m fond.
Sweet marriage of pen to paper.
The bliss of penning grand thoughts to page
Dotting the I’s and
crossing all t’s,
Beget poetry, prose for all to engage.
Heart spilling over,
surfeited with ease,
Every word golden, humbly, of course.
Ink softly flows with my mind overeager
Capturing sweet memories
Too dear to forget
Fingers cramp, eyes ache, beleaguered
Penning letters for hearts to
Whom I’m in debt.
If I only knew, more letters, sweet Gram.
……………………………………………………………………………
Paper and pen, obsolete now,
wasting, forgotten,
lonely and lost . . .
Once kitschy pens now lay fallow
Luxury papers, oh
hang the cost.
Once so romantic,
Computers now take the guise of a lover
Offering solutions,
Settling the debt,
We Google and Yahoo, seeking no other
To trust and to follow
And God we forget.
Please, hand me my Bible.
Night terrors alarm me, shake me awake,
To relate to my husband
While still in my dread
He offers me comfort, my fears to placate,
Must keep pen and paper
Close to our bed.
Pray.
