This is a holy day, a day of worship, a day of praise.
The ark is returned! The ark is returned!
Dance, King David, dance with all your might,
Worship with abandon, sound the trumpet—
Strip off your royal gowns, leap and dance before the Lord!
But, in a window upstairs, stands Michal,
Cold, despising, resentful, jealous—
“David, don’t you know how shameful you look before the servant girls?”
Michal, Michal, rejoice with David, this is a holy day!
The ark is returned! The ark is returned!
Weep, mourn, repent, cry out to God—
This is a holy day, a day of worship, a day of sacrifice.
Jesus is here! Jesus is here!
Weep, sinner woman, weep for your sins,
Worship with abandon, break the alabaster,
Wash your Savior’s feet with your tears, dry them with your hair.
But, at the table, sits Simon,
Righteous, sanctimonious, keeper of the law,
“Jesus, don’t you know this is a sinner woman touching you?”
Simon, Simon, worship with this woman, this is a holy day!
Jesus is here! Jesus is here!
And Jesus says to me, “Come my child,
Weep, repent, mourn for your sins—
Let down your hair, worship me.
Dance, shout, sing, leap for joy—
Your sins are forgiven, worship me!
This day— every day— is a holy day,
Jesus is here! Jesus is here!
