Well, well, if it isn't little miss goody two shoes! Why, you don't look at all happy to see me; what's the matter Mel, feeling a little threatened are we?"
"What are you doing here? I thought I made myself perfectly clear last time to leave my friend alone."
Yes, well you know how it goes - bad day turns into a bad week and it's, 'oh, let's call the long lost party friend...'
"You're no friend to Dee!"
Really? Are you sure that's the way she sees it? I mean, let's look at the facts here Mel; in a crisis, who is it that Dee has turned to? Hmm?
"A true friend doesn't encourage them to self destruct!"
I am doing no such thing, Mel. Dee has had the worst possible week; she got passed over for a promotion at work, Dave is .. well, being his usual charming self; and she's staring down the proverbial gun-barrell as far as keeping this hovel of an apartment...she missed the past two weeks' rent, you know. Mel, you're looking at me as if this is all news to you. For someone who claims to be her 'best friend' I must say I'm a little surprised you weren't aware of these things. Or maybe she feels she just can't turn to you and, having no where else to go, she felt she could call on me to help her get through the next few days. And let's face it, I'm a much better listener than you'll ever be. Besides, we're just going to have a bit of fun, where's the harm?
"The harm is that you make her forget her true self. You feed her lie after lie and blind her to the facts. For a while at least."
And how is that a bad thing? She's going through hell at the moment; I'm helping her to cope until she's back on the right track and the train pulls out of that station. Then I'll be on my way and you can get back to your girly stuff, like sleepovers and gossip magazines.
"But we both know that's not going to happen, don't we?! You'll keep on planting subtle seeds of self-doubt and confusion in her mind, until she is unable to let go of you, and you'll be her flatmate for ever. And I'm sorry, but I refuse to let that happen."
Hehehe, oh Mel, you're so deluded. Dee has made her choice; I won! And there's nothing you can do about it!
"Oh, really!?"
And with that, Mel stood up, grabbed Merlot by the throat and poured her contents down the drain.

Alcoholism is quite "beastie.":-)You acted as a best friend to Dee whom I would like to have heard from; to know if your actions made a difference. One tiny observation:
"A true friend does not encourage them to self destruct."..."A true friend does not encourage one to self-destruct." I like how you used the neck of the bottle to grab it by the "throat."
