We wanted to see the World’s Fair.
But something was missing, something was wrong
And it bothered me all the way there.
The feeling was scary, even on Wednesday
As we beheld the Cascades.
The water was lovely, the Vista a gem,
And everywhere music was played.
Thursday dawned rainy and so we stayed in
And dined in the hotel restaurant,
We hired a car to tour the great town;
The sites and the park at Belmont.
On Friday the feeling just wouldn’t relent
So I sent a most dire telegram:
“Did we leave the fire burning at home on the hearth,
Dear Neighbor please lend me a hand.
I have this bad feeling that something’s not right,
But just what I surely can’t tell.
Has anything happened that’s bad news for us?
Did the hired man fall down the well?”
I heard not a word from my neighbors and friends,
So Father said, “Please let it rest,”
I’m sure all is well in our happy abode;
No ill has beset our sweet nest.”
On Saturday, Mother said, “What should we do?
My dear now, what would you like?
A trip to the Terrace of States this fine day,
Or a leisurely stroll down the Pike?
On Sunday we visited Westminster Church
With its gothic arches and spires.
Then late afternoon the Electric Light show,
The Palace with light bulbs and wires.
On Monday Father said “Time to go home.”
I have to admit I was glad.
The needling worry that plagued me all week
Did ruin all the fun to be had.
We stepped off the train and were greeted by friends,
We passed out Fair gifts to them all.
But when we got home I looked all around;
The bedrooms, the Great room, the hall.
I went to the kitchen the pantry to see
And what should be spread on the mat
but a litter of kittens all curled up to mama.
My Fluffy; my favorite, my cat!
I couldn’t have known that my Fluffy was due
With little bundles of joy,
For up until then I thought my dear cat
Was a scruffy feline boy!
So that was the week I worried for naught,
My Fluffy proved a good mother.
I learned not to worry when on holiday,
Who knows when there’ll be another.
