The sound became louder. It emanated from within her, and yet surrounded her. It was chaotic, but yet somehow melodic. Discordant, but yet in perfect harmony. It was a thousand sounds and voices, all doing something different, but yet they blended together. It was impossible, so how could she be experiencing it?
She strained, finally finding she could almost make out some of the words.

The words were being sung in several languages, most not at all familiar to her, and to melodies she had never heard of. Some were just the same words being repeated, over and over, while others were whole phrases and songs. How could so many different sounds blend so wonderfully together?
Her vision was clearing. She turned her head, looking around her in every direction possible, trying to make sense of it. She looked down, and was astounded at what she was standing on. It was a polished jewel! The space she was in seemed limitless, she couldn’t see any walls. All she could see were people, of all races, colors, and ages. They were the ones singing.
Most of them were singing. There were a few others, like her, that seemed to be trying to figure out where they were. There was an all encompassing sense of peace emanating from everyone.
Gradually she found herself humming and then singing along. She had an overwhelming sense of thankfulness, of being blessed. It was a quiet feeling, coming from her very pores. Then the song burst out of her. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Over and over. It didn’t matter what the words were, all that mattered was what they expressed. Yes, that was what she was hearing, total gratitude, a thanksgiving far beyond anything she could have ever contemplated possible.
Periodically there was a deeper thrumming sound, a sound so deep she felt it within her bones, rather than heard it. She began to look around again, and then finally she looked up and she saw them. Gasping, she reeled in shock.

Then came another sound, a voice, that wasn’t really a voice. It was a sensation. A very comfortable “you’ve come home” sensation. “Sherrie, my child, you are much loved. You are my dearest daughter.”
There was a light that came from everywhere, soft, warm, and glowing. Arms surrounded her in a gentle strength.
Yes, she was home.
Then a memory began to intrude on her peace. A sound that didn’t belong here. A loud scrapping sound, and a crash that jarred and caused her whole body to jerk.
“No, no, please! Mommy, mommy, I need you. Mommy, where are you. Why can’t I see my mommy. Let go of me, I want my mommy.”
It was Kelley’s voice, calling for her. Where was she? Where was her daughter? She had to go to Kelley. Her baby needed her.
The peace surrounded her again.
“Mommy!” Kelley screamed. She was hysterical. Nobody else could calm her, take care of her.
“I have to go. I have to take care of Kelley.” She pleaded.
The warm arms that had been surrounding her slowly released. “Go, my child. I will wait for you.”
Suddenly the music was gone and she heard sirens, and people shouting.
“A pulse! We have a pulse!”

You did very well creating the transition from heaven (peace) back to earth (stress & chaos). Excellent writing!

This definately had an emotional impact. It reminds me of Paul saying that he would prefer to go to heaven but he is still needed on earth. I, for one, am glad that this mummy could come back for her daughter's need.
