Author: Okay, I guess. I'm just a bit nervous.
Christian Critique: Nervous? Nothing to be nervous about, I'm here to help you.
Author: I know...It's just that sometimes your words hurt.
Christian Critique: I think my words heal, at least they help. Why do you say they hurt?
Author: Well, because I want to be a great writer. I have a masterpiece that I'm so proud of, then you come and critique it. Suddenly, it's no longer a masterpiece; it's full of flaws. Then I realize I'm not a great writer after all.
Christian Critique: I always tell you your good points, too. You are a great writer, but for any great writer, there's always room to improve. I come to help you improve. That's the only way a great writer can grow stronger. What good am I to you if I don't point out your flaws and show you how to improve?
Author: I don't know. Don't you ever agree that something is a masterpiece that could never get any better than it already is?
Christian Critique: Nope, sorry, as long as we are human, there's always room to improve. We go from glory to glory.
Author: So I don't have one writing that is just perfect?
Christian Critique: Even if it's perfect to me, it won't be to the next person critiquing it.
Author: That's what makes me nervous when you come around.
Christian Critique: Author, don't you know, I'm your friend? I'm on your side. I'm not against you. You should love me. You should embrace what I have to say.
Author: (Sigh) I guess you're right?
Christian Critique: You're a Christian, right?
Author: Yes, can't you tell from my writings?
Christian Critique: Do you read the Bible?
Author: Of course I do.
Christian Critique: Why?
Author: I need it to survive. It's my spiritual food. It gives me wisdom, inspiration, guidance and just everything I need.
Christian Critique: Do you ever read something in it that brings pain?
Author: No, it always brings joy.
Christian Critique: Always? Even when you read something you know you are guilty of.
Author: Well, yea, that grieves me, but only cause I know I've done wrong and I need to change.
Christian Critique: Aha.
Author: Well, no one is perfect. The Bible helps shape us and mold us more and more into the image of Christ. It's the greatest book ever written.
Christian Critique: Yes, I agree.
Author: So you do agree something can be perfect?
Christian Critique: Only God's Word can be completely perfect for everyone.
Author: True. So I guess I'm ready for you to critique my work.
Christian Critique: Don't you see why I'm your friend now? I help. Just as God prunes us so that we can bear more fruit, using His Word, so I prune your writings so that they can become more fruitful. You are my prized possession, my masterpiece. If I can make you a better writer and perfect your work, then I know I've done my job and that makes me happy.
Author: Wow, I get it! I finally get it. You really are my friend. You help me, I don't need to be afraid of you. You are my friend.
Christian Critique: Great. Now you won't fear me anymore. So let's get down to business; the two of us working together can accomplish great things.
Author: Thanks Christian Critique, I'm ready now. Here's my latest manuscript.
