Loathsome darkness,
Dreadful companion,
Surrounding me with grief.
This endless road of suffering,
I long for sweet relief.
Exhausting pain,
Relentless groaning,
I cry for help in need.
I doubt His loving sovereignty,
And suspect every creed.
The questions pierce,
Malicious and cold,
They woo and wound so well.
“Why?” hangs suspended in the air,
Unanswered in the swell.
The formulas,
Dusty platitudes,
Advice of days gone by,
Do not compare with Thy dear Word,
Wise God and strong ally.
To the broken,
And crushed in spirit,
You promise to be near.
Ohhh, Lord … my God Immanuel,
Draw near, I pray, and hear.
Then from the gloom,
Blessed strain I hear,
Unlike my own, and yet…
A groaning far too deep for words.
A beautiful vignette.
Ohhh, blessed God,
Searching every heart,
On my behalf you speak,
And utter words that I cannot,
You’re strong when I am weak.
What heavy load,
An oppressing rod,
The tempest rages on.
But Thou, the breaker of my yoke,
On You, I lean upon.
Anxious longing,
Like pangs of childbirth,
Reverberating pleas.
Our adoption and redemption,
Benevolent decrees!
Creation groans,
Eagerly waiting,
Freedom from every sin.
All the suffering that is present,
Will one day fade and dim.
We persevere,
And stay on the path,
So much is now concealed.
But hope abounds, we look ahead,
There is glory to be revealed!

So true...formulas, platitudes,advice cannot compare to the anchor that is His Word!
