Huh’s become a habit, a nasty one, it’s true,
Convenient, it belies the fact that no one’s hearing you.
It’s why I have to repeat each and every word I say,
And why I say the same old things a hundred times a day.
Did you do your homework, son, did you do your chores?
Have you done one single thing I asked you to before?
Honey, where’s the checkbook, and did you pay the bills?
Why do our conversations all become a war of wills?
Sometimes it is so bad I wind up feeling miserable.
No one hears me, it is like I am invisible.
Is anybody listening…does anybody care?
With all the people in the world, it feels like no one’s there.
Huh’s become a habit, and listening from the heart,
Gets scarcer with each passing day, it is a dying art.
It is a word I, too, have used, I sadly must confess,
That I don’t always listen to the One Who knows me best.
But I can boldly seek His ear, I don’t have to be wary,
For “huh” is not a word that’s found in God’s vocabulary.
