Hi, my name is Caleb and I am going to be four-years old next month; that's if I'm lucky. I'm not too sure who lucky is, but I’m guessing he is someone my mom knows pretty well, as I hear her say his name a lot. Anyway, she told me I should pray and see if I deserve any new toys for my birthday this year, so that’s what I am doing here.
Let me fill you in a little bit. I was an only child for two and a half years and then mom and dad said I needed a playmate, so they went somewhere and came back with my brother, Gavin.
At first, it was pretty cool having him around. To tell you the truth, and according to mom I had better, I didn’t even know he had arms or legs for the first few months as he was always wrapped up in some blanket. But, then he started to crawl and the first thing he did was to beeline it for my toys.
That’s when it all really started. Mom said I had to share my toys with him, even though he didn’t know how to play with them. He would take whatever he wanted and start chewing on them. He’d drool on my cars, knock over my building blocks, take apart my puzzles, eat my crayons, and destroy just about anything I was doing. He never got in trouble for taking things away from me, but I was always getting yelled at for not sharing with him.
Well, I guess that's when things went from bad to worse. I started to take my toys right back from him and yes, I’ve been mean to him. I’ve pushed him, shoved him, hit him, and (but please don’t tell mom) I’ve even bitten him.
Now he’s walking and I can’t do anything without him being right next to me. Worse yet, he is starting to talk. Cute little words like mommy, daddy, ball, book, and some other things I don’t understand, but everyone else thinks are just so precious.
What isn’t cute is he thinks my name is ow-eeeee. Every time he comes over to play with me and if I don’t give him what he wants, he cries ow-eeeee. If I take something back that he took from me, he cries ow-eeeee. If he falls and bumps his head, he looks at me and cries ow-eeeee. When mom comes into the room to find out what is going on, he points his finger at me and says, "Ow-eeeee."
Mom is always yelling for me to leave my brother alone. My dad tells me I get more time outs then his favorite football team does. So this year for my birthday I would like you to make my brother call me by my god given name, besides if I got a new toy I'd just get into more trouble and who needs that!
Thank you and I'm suppose to say amen too.
Your friend
Caleb
