Topic: Purple (11/05/09)
I have a definite infinity for the color purple. I love all the shades of it and there are many in the family. Of all the colors on the color spectrum, purple by all counts has the most variance of shades. There are magenta, lilac, lavender, mauve all the way to violet, You could say I go wild for the color. But that would not be entirely true, because there is something calming about the color. I noticed this today at my dentist's office the walls were a nice soothing mauve and maroon color and the carpet a mixture of the two.

My bedroom walls are painted lavender and there are hints of deeper shades of purple throughout the room. It is true I sleep better at night. I love the smell of lilacs in the spring and seeing their splash of color among the tulip hues. I agree with a line from the movie "The Color Purple" one character states: (paraphrasing)..." More than anything God love admiration. I think it makes God angry when someone walks by the color purple in a field and don't notice it...", my sentiments exactly.

Recently I saw the story on television about a little girl name Somer (pronounced Summer), whose favorite color was purple also. She like me, loved all things purple. Somer was seven years old when her time here on earth was cut short. Someone (or some persons) did the unthinkable and snatched Somer as she was walking home from school. Leaving her family and friends to search and have candle light vigils. They cried and prayed and sang her favorite song You Are My Sunshine.

Unfortunately little Somer would not return home alive. A search of a out of state landfill a week later, by chance or divine intervention (I would like to think), her body was found. Her mother would at least be able to bring her little girl home. Watching that funeral procession was truly one of the saddest things I have ever seen. The streets were lined with people holding purple balloons of all shades. As the funeral car passed with Somer's little body, the balloons were released amid strains of .. You are my sunshine, my only sunshine..

There is one more name given to the color purple and that is royal purple. Only those of royal blood were thought worthy to wear the color, the dye was very expensive. It was also used in the priests' robes for the temple. Red and blue combined makes the color purple. I would like to think the red represents the blood of Christ and blue the kingly bloodline. According to scripture I am in the Royal family, (Rev. 1:6), that could be why I already enjoy the color so much now. One day I hope to see little Somer in heaven with her beautiful purple and white princess dress on.

Your intro was weakened by "infinity" (limitless) appearing when "affinity" (natural attraction) would have been more accurate, but the rest of your story flows very well towards a strong conclusion.
